What is going on with Call Of Duty?

What’s happening with Call of Duty? It’s a question many fans are asking, especially with Black Ops 7 on the horizon. Should we be concerned?

Only time will tell.

My biggest issue with the upcoming title stems from the state of Black Ops 6. Even months after its release, it still feels incomplete—especially when compared to last year’s Modern Warfare 3. That title was packed with content: weekly conversion kits, a mix of classic and new maps, and memorable additions like Rio, Vista, and others. It felt alive and full of excitement.

Sadly, Black Ops 6 just doesn’t measure up. Sure, Skyline is an okay map, but is it the best the game has to offer? What about Protocol or my personal favorite, Vault? They’re decent, but overall the maps feel lackluster compared to what we got in Modern Warfare 3.

What’s even more concerning is the rumor that some of Modern Warfare 3’s content was repurposed for Black Ops 6 to compensate for the lack of original material. While there’s no concrete evidence, it’s likely that some launch maps weren’t even created by Treyarch but instead by Sledgehammer.

What does this mean for the future?

It suggests that as Black Ops 6 nears the end of its lifecycle, we shouldn’t expect much in terms of significant updates or new content. And when Black Ops 7 launches, there’s a real possibility it could ship with limited maps and fewer post-launch additions. I truly hope I’m wrong, but the pattern is hard to ignore.

As a long-time fan of Treyarch titles (with Black Ops 1 being my all-time favorite), it’s disappointing to see the decline in their output. While I did enjoy Cold War, I couldn’t help but feel let down by their decision to revert to the older engine instead of fully embracing the polished Modern Warfare 2019 engine. It felt like a step backward.

In conclusion, while I remain hopeful that Treyarch can deliver a standout experience with Black Ops 7, I’m also prepared for the possibility that it may fall short. Let’s cross our fingers that they prove me wrong and deliver a title that goes down as one of the greats. Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, you can catch me grinding Modern Warfare 3 with the squad on Twitch! Just look up Gunnybear and join the fun.
