Ah, where to start.

Let's start where it began shall we. Parasyte, started as a manga in 1988. The manga would be categorized today as "old-school" or "classic" to some extent. The artstyle is reminescent of a time before the classic manga "look" was ever adopted by 99% of mangaka's. 

What makes this series so interesting to me at least is how they tackle topics like climate change as it super impressive how aware this writer was when he wrote Parasyte.

The main character's developpement is nothing short of amazing. I remember vividly being introduced to this in highschool and being obsessed with it. Fast forward 18 years, it is still my absolute favorite manga.

Now let's move on to the anime.

Titled: Parasyte: The Maxim, the anime is a well done and extremely accurate to the manga. Main differences here would be the time at which they were both made, as the anime was made in 2016, the animation and drawing quality is definitly more modern.

Even some elements like phones, cars amd tech in general seem to have been adjusted to this as well which is very clever. The story is rather simple in a way but the depth comes from the moral dilemas presented in a highly intelligent manner. I am trying my best right now not to spoil anything.

If you like horror, shonen, seinen or sci-fi animes, stop sleeping on this one, you won't be dissapointed.

Last and not le.....

Yeah it's not all that great. The show has it's pluses for sure. I like the cgi, a little on the cheaper side but good enough to get the information across. I like the basic idea of the brain being half taken by the parasite.

So, the characters here are somewhat forgettable. I like them, sometimes. Other times though, the characters seem to just be there to get the plot going, not to actually be involved in said plot.

The main actress is great don't get me wrong, the cast is overall very digestable. I think the issue mostly come from any side character, like they coudn't be further to the side.

Would I watch again? Maybe. Honestly the big thing to take here is that I am biased in a way because my love for the original series made me put expectations a little too high for Parasyte: The Grey.
